Rikuzentakata was devastated by the tsunami, and I wanted to know with my own eyes the current situation of Rikuzentakata and how it was at the time of the disaster, so I applied for the Park Guide Remains Special Course. Since I had made a reservation in advance, I was greeted in a friendly and courteous manner, and the borrowing process took about 5 minutes, with the necessary documents filled out, ID submitted, and a brief explanation of the bicycle operation. After adjusting the saddle height, we set off. First, we took a panoramic view of the ocean from the observatory behind the Tourist Products Association. I was shocked to see the empty area expanding. We cycled to the Yonezawa Chamber of Commerce, which can be seen from the observatory. It is a long way from the association, but it is easy to use an electric bicycle. Next, we went to "Reconstruction Memorial Park" through the rice paddies. Since vehicles are not allowed in the park, we walked around the "Place to Look at the Sea" and "Miracle Pine Tree," and then went to the "Tsunami Legacy Museum. We were concerned about the two-hour time limit around here, so we returned to the association after glancing at "Tapic 45" and "the site of the railroad crossing" with a little indigestion. I guess everyone has their own way of touring, but I was able to fulfill the purpose of my own visit even though I was a bit fast-paced. I think I would have had more time if I had spent another 30 minutes to an hour. This visit reminded me of the fear of tsunamis and the need to be prepared for them as a person living in earthquake-prone Japan. Thank you very much.

I thought the BBQ facilities were good and cosy. The food, etc., was delicious, with an assortment of items that were carefully selected and produced in Iwate Prefecture. I think it would be better if there was a system to reserve ingredients in advance or at least a list of ingredients on the website. If I may say so, I would like them to offer beverages as well. Unfortunately, it was difficult to get to and the reception desk was confusing at first, as it was not obvious, just roughly marked on the website as "reception here" and on the aerial image on Google Maps.

It was a comfortable ride even in the light rain. In addition to getting to attractions such as Ipponmatsu, Suimon, and Kesenchu without walking, the tour also included valuable episodes based on your own interviews. At the same time, it can be connected to raising awareness of individual disaster prevention. The length is also just right.

It was a comfortable cycling trip, even on slightly hilly roads. Although it would have been faster to go around by car, the speed and perspective that only a bicycle can provide allowed me to see many sights that I would not have noticed if I had been driving. It was especially nice that there were many information boards along the way, so we were able to stop and look at them for a while. As a request, the road to the remains of the school is a long way, so it would be nice if it could be accessed from the road in front of the school as a pedestrian and bicycle pathway.

This was our second visit to Tohoku, about an hour and 50 minutes by plane from Fukuoka, where we live. I work in the field of urban development (especially land readjustment projects), and my colleagues who were involved in earthquake reconstruction at the time suggested that we should visit the disaster-stricken areas firsthand. This time, I wanted to hear the stories of local people in Iwate Prefecture, so I applied for the "Grislow de Park Guide" in Rikuzentakata City. The day of the tour, it was raining unfortunately, but the side of the Grislo was covered so we did not get wet, and the driver, Mr. Suzuki, lent us an umbrella and took us safely on and off the vehicle. The guide, Mr. Sato, showed us around the remains of the tsunami and told us about the threat of the tsunami and the enormous damage it caused. He taught us that it is important for each one of us to seriously simulate and prepare for an evacuation. I felt that everyone who had gone through such a terrible experience was making efforts not only to convey the disaster, including the episodes of the Ipponmatsu pine tree and the restoration remains, but also to make the best use of the disaster for the future. Thank you very much for this important experience. Iwate Prefecture is very large. In fact, I learned this time that it is the second largest prefecture in Japan. The food and drinks are delicious, and I hope to visit again.

Since I was going all this way, I wanted to see it with a guide! I found this tour because I wanted to see the city with a guide. The tour was very informative, and I was able to understand what was happening before and after the earthquake. I also appreciated that I could ask questions that I was curious about on the spot. I was able to think about the beautiful scenery and people's lives in the past, which is difficult to see only from the current scenery.
